This early 20th century poster supporting the political and social advancement of African Americans centers on Abraham Lincoln holding a document with the line All men are created equal... from the Declaration of Independence. Lincoln is surrounded by smaller vignettes of esteemed African Americans, including poet and novelist Paul L. Dunbar and social reformer Frederick Douglass. The poster highlights the military achievements of African American soldiers and prominently features portraits of Franklin A. Dennison and Otis B. Duncan, two officers from the 370th Infantry Regiment in World War I. The black community's significant contributions to the war effort and dedication to their country fueled the fight to gain equal rights as citizens at home. The background is decorated with scenes that reference education, military, and industry. Published in Chicago by E. G. Renesch.
