This charming map of Wales is based on the map of Humphrey Lhuyd, 1568. It is filled with details of mountain ranges, forests and cities and also shows the coast of Ireland with Dublin located. The map was engraved by Petrus Kaerius for Hondius shortly after he acquired the plates for Mercator's famous atlas. It is beautifully embellished with decorative title and scale of miles cartouches. Latin text on verso.
There is light show-through of text on verso, a professionally repaired centerfold separation that enters 2" into map at top, and some chips and tears in blank margins that have been archivally repaired. There is a 2" tear to the left of the title cartouche that has also been professionally repaired.
