First state of this charming copper engraved map of the continent based on the Paolo Forlani map. The continent depicts the vastly elongated extension of the eastern seaboard, the Strait of Anian, a rather odd bulge in the California peninsula and Giapan (Japan) just offshore. The map has a stippled engraved sea in the Italian style and is decorated with a strapwork title cartouche, compass rose and two wild-looking sea creatures. On a full sheet of Italian text.

Condition: B+

There are a few spots and an archivally repaired tear that enters 0.25" into map image at left . The sheet of text has a few damp stains that do not impact map image.
