"View of New York. From Brooklyn Heights", Currier & Ives

Currier and Ives was a printmaking company based in New York City from 1834-1907, specializing in high quality, hand printed and colored stone lithographs. The focus of their work was American life, cities and people, and they often employed celebrated artists of the day to render drawings to be reproduced in print form. Fanny Palmer, whose many views of New York and Long Island are among the best known of Currier & Ives’ city views, created this panoramic view of the busy harbor of New York City from Brooklyn Heights. The East River is filled with ships and steamboats, while the skyline of the city is punctuated by church steeples. Several well-dressed people stand on the grassy banks of Brooklyn Heights watching the traffic in the river. Numerous locations are identified below the image. The imprint at bottom shows Currier and Ives' address at 152 Nassau St. Sheet size is 18-3/8" x 13-5/8".

Attractive color with a few minor abrasions and expert repairs to several cracks, including one that extends 2.25" into sky at left and another that extends 2.5" through the waters at bottom right. Mounted to archival-mat board to stabilize the paper.
