This interesting small map is accompanied by the 49 pp. Congressional report. The 1838 document regards the grant of a tract of land to the State of Indiana for the purpose of opening a canal to connect the Wabash River with Lake Erie. The proposed canal is lightly colored pink. The Wabash-Erie Canal was completed in 1842. It extended to Evansville, rather than Terre Haute, as shown on this map.
The map has offsetting and is trimmed to neatline for binding on the left. The report pages have scattered foxing and about 16 pages are toned.
