This fine folding map by J. Calvin Smith shows the various counties in different colors, along with great detail of roads, railroads and rivers. There is a vignette of Maidens Rock, a table of Census Bureau statistics in the upper-right, and an ornate border surrounding the map.
The map folds into the original 100 pp. guide book with 36 additional pages of advertisements titled, Colton's Traveler and Tourist's Guide-Book Through the Western States and Territories…. This map and guide were published when this region was transitioning from being considered the Far West to the Midwest, symbolizing the area's increasing importance to the country's economic development and expansion.
There are a few small spots in the image, else very good. Cloth covered book boards are in very good condition with minimal shelf wear.
