Dr. Playfair (1738-1819), was a minister, historiographer to the Prince of Wales, and Principal of the United College of St Salvator and St Leonard in the University of St Andrews from 1799 until his death. The maps from Playfair's A New General Atlas are quite scarce. This detailed map of India is divided by states and territories, and includes Sri Lanka (Isle of Ceylon). Original color and wide margins with light soiling. A long centerfold separation has been closed on verso with masking tape, resulting in staining.
