This charming petite atlas and geography for children has an engraved frontispiece showing the infant Atlas holding a celestial globe on his shoulders. This complete atlas contains 24 folding maps including a double hemisphere world, each of the continents and several regional maps and celestial diagrams. The atlas is divided into 22 chapters, with each chapter explaining the geography of a particular map in a unique question and answer format. Published by Jean-Marie Bruyset with maps after Delisle. 16mo, full leather, spine gilt lettered with morocco label, 286 pp.
The maps are in near fine to very good condition, with original hand color and occasional light foxing and toning primarily confined to blank margins. Covers and spine are worn with minor loss of leather. Binding is tight - a nice copy.
