A beautiful map of the region above the Arctic Circle with notations concerning the discoveries made in the region by the Barentz expedition to locate a northern passage to the East Indies between 1594 and 1596. The map is fully engraved with mountains, forests, ships, sea monsters, compass roses and two superb cartouches, each flanked by indigenous people and animals.
Wide margins with a light crease and some light soiling in blank margins. A small chip at top, far from map image, and remnants of hinge tape on verso.
