This scarce and unusual thematic map illustrates the geographic distribution of the human races throughout the world. It is drawn on Mercator's Projection with well-rendered vignettes of the various races at top and sides. Beneath the map are related graphs and a smaller world map showing population density in relation to agricultural zones. Berghaus' Physikalischer Atlas was a monumental work in the history of thematic cartography. It is considered the first comprehensive physical atlas of the world.

Original color with light toning and faint stains that do not distract. A few small pinholes in upper corners far from map image.
