This is a reduced version of Sanson's important map of South America (1650). There were several editions with this one published by his grandson. This edition has been updated with a number of significant improvements. Tierra del Fuego is shown as an island with Le Maire Strait shown. Lake Parime is no longer identified, but there is an unnamed lake further west and still straddling the equator. Both the Amazon and Rio de la Plata have been redrawn. Unusually a coastline of the Terre Australe Magaellanique Inconue now appears where there was not one on Sanson's folio map.
