This detailed map of the Iberian peninsula is based on the observations of the great Portuguese geographer, Rodrigo Mendez Silva. The map is an excellent example of Delisle's scientific style of mapmaking with clear detail of the topography and political information. Typical of the French school of cartography, the decorative elements of the map are kept to the cartouche.
