This is Ortelius' first map of the historic region of Belgium and the Netherlands. The ancient place names are based on classical sources, most notably Caesar. The map is richly engraved with forests, rivers and cities and adorned with four bold cartouches and a unique compass rose. From the 1592 Latin edition with Latin text on verso.
