This lot consists of 25 plates from the 16 volume edition of The Natural History of British Insects by Edward Donovan, author and illustrator of a wide variety of books of natural history topics (including insects, shells, birds and flowers). Donovan, founder of the London Museum and Institute of Natural History, performed all steps of the illustration process for his books: drawing, etching, engraving and hand coloring.
