This interesting historical map illustrates the eastern extent of the Roman Empire, extending from the Middle East to northern India. A large Eastern Hemisphere puts the map in context and shows up-to-date cartography of the region including a partially delineated Australia. This map originated with Delisle in 1705 as noted in the decorative cartouche. In this edition it is updated with an entirely different shape for the Caspian Sea. Buache's imprint and the date appear in the bottom margin.
