This lot contains Plates 121, 122, and 131. The large "Map of Charleston and its Defenses" includes all of the harbor, Fort Sumter, Fort Ripley, and Fort Moultrie. Red overprinting is used to locate and name many batteries and inland forts, with close detail at a scale of one mile per inch. The other two sheets feature numerous single tint photographs of Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie including Sullivan's Island, Fort Moultrie; View of Terre- Plein of the Gorge of Fort Sumter and more. Many famous photographers worked in the war, but no attribution is given for these photographs.
