"Waldeck Comitatus", Blaeu, Willem

Handsome map of the region surrounding Waldeck in northern Hessen. The map is finely engraved to show rivers, forests, mountains, cites and villages. It is decorated with the coat-of-arms as part of the decorative title cartouche. A second cartouche contains the distance scale with putti using surveying equipment. Dutch text on verso with fine wood-block logo featuring angels.

A beautiful example with a dark, early impression on a thick sheet with wide margins. Centerfold separations in the upper and lower margins have been reinforced on the verso with tissue. A little very light toning in upper left quadrant and a faint water stain in lower margin at left.
