This book contains numerous reports and official communications including nine proclamations and thirty-four dispatches from Gov. Douglas and the Secretary of State, the Duke of Newcastle. Subjects covered include Crown land grants to clergymen, mining operations, Indian relations, fishing, and colonial governing topics. Two mineral related reports are the Discovery of Gold Fields at Rock Creek in the Shimilkomeen Country, and of Silver at Union Bar Near Fort Hope; and Gold Discoveries at Okanagan Lake and Antler Creek. With the four original folding maps, each by John Arrowsmith, hand colored, and dated 1861.

1) Reduced Map of a portion of British Columbia…, 16.8 x 11.2".

2) Sketch to Accompany Dr. Forbes' Geological Sections on Harrison Lake & Lillooet River with four large geological cross-sections. Key identifies nine geological formations including Silver Veins. 23.5 x 11.5".

3) Reduced Sketch of part of British Columbia, 15 x 12", uncolored. Locates Caribou Lake, Lower Lake, Swamp River, Swan Lake, the Swift River Mountains, and the Swift River with a note that it flows to the Fraser River.

4) British Columbia, Reduced Copy of the Map referred to in the Despatch of Govr. Douglas…, 11 x 16". Legend uses hand color to indicate "Gold found recently", shown throughout a large portion of the map. Locates the Fraser River, Great Okanogan Lake, Shonswap Lake, Ft. George, the Cariboo Diggins, and much more. At the far right is the Columbia River. Blue paper covers, 80 pages, four maps. The report was "Presented to both Houses of Parliament by Command of Her Majesty, March 1862."
