This lot is a set of views from Capt. James Cook's expeditions in the Pacific Ocean. The lot includes:

1) A Representation of the Attack on Captn. Wallis in the Dolphin by the Natives of Otaheite. (12.8 x 8") A three-masted ship in Tahiti's harbor fires cannons on the surrounding canoes. A large canoe appears to be the Royal boat. Engraved by Sparrow. A little soiling near top and close trimmed at bottom. (B+)
2) An Offering before Captn. Cook, in One of the Sandwich Islands. Captain Cook and three other officers are presented a cloth while about twenty natives watch. In the background is a fine representation of a home and a tall idol. Engraved by J.G. Wooding. Trimmed at top into neatline and image, some paper lifting in title from binding with a little loss in the word "before" and two short edge tears. (B) (14.2 x 8.5")
3) Captn. Wallis, on his Arrival at O'Taheite, in Conversation with Oberea the Queen, while her Attendants are Performing a Favorite Dance Called the Timrodee. (10.6 x 7.5") Tahitian beauty at its best. Seven maidens dance as the seated Wallis speaks with the queen. Engraved by Morris. Good margins. The image is very good, but a repaired 1.5" tear at right enters image. (B+)
4) The Landing of Captn. Cook, &c. at Mallicolo, One of the New Hebrides. (12.5 x 8.2") Intentions are uncertain in this beach scene with Cook and the shore party landing in two canoes with a large contingent of armed warriors greeting them. The image is near fine with a dark impression. Close trimmed at top affecting part of the imprint above neatline. A long repaired tear enters engraving from bottom. (B)
5) A View in the Island of New Caledonia. (13.8 x 8.5") Very nice image with no flaws and dark impression. Close trimmed at top to lose the imprint above neatline. (B+) <
6) A Man of New Caledonia / A Woman of New Caledonia. (13 x 8.7") Heavily engraved double portrait, each in its own border. Trimmed to neatline at top and a small bit of paper missing from lower left corner tip. (B)
