This is a French edition of Bartlett's monumental work. The beautifully executed steel engravings are accompanied with descriptive text by N. P. Willis. The frontispiece of volume I is a portrait of Bartlett, the title page is "Ascent to the Capitol, Washington," and the title page for volume II is "Entrance to the Hudson Highlands, Near Newburgh." Volume I contains 62 full-page steel engravings including Niagara Falls, West Point, Staten Island, view of the Capitol in Washington, Boston, Yale University and many more. Also with the map "The Northeastern Part of the United States" Volume II contains 52 full-page steel engravings including images of Newhaven, Niagara, Lake Winipiseogee, Norwich, Boston, New York, President's house in Mount Vernon, Baltimore, Bank of the US in Philadelphia, the Washington Monument, and more. All text is in French, but all plates are in English and are identical to the English edition. In all, 114 steel engravings of America plus a frontispiece and two engraved pictorial title pages. Hardbound in marbled paper with red leather spine and gilt titling. Volume I with 140 pages plus plates, Volume II with 106 pages plus plates.

Condition: B+

Covers are very nice with only slight wear evident. Contents mostly very good with some scattered foxing reducing those pages to good. Plates with the original tissue guards.
