This is a fine, facsimile set of globe gores designed for a terrestrial globe nearly 30" in diameter; one of the largest complete sets of globe gores printed in the sixteenth century. These exquisite engravings are thought to be the work of Guilio and Livio Sanuto and are representative of fine Venetian cartographic design and workmanship. Reproduced from the sole extant set of gores, from the private collection of Arthur Holzheimer and accompanied by a dissertation on the gores and their probable source by cartographic scholar, David Woodward. Limited edition, #106 or 150 copies, signed by David Woodward. The booklet is hardbound into marble-paper covered boards, with the booklet and gores fitted into a cloth covered case with a gilt title on spine "Sanuto Globe Gores."
