The handsome little map is from the first pocket version of Abraham Ortelius' great atlas. It covers the Persian Empire between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf and includes much of present-day Afghanistan and Pakistan. The map is enclosed in the rope-like border characteristic of the first editions, issued between 1577 and 1598. Latin text on verso.
