"Devoniae Comitatus Vulgo Denshyre, Quam olim Danmonii Populi Incolucrunt", Saxton/Kip
Period: 1610 (circa)
Publication: Camden's Britannia
Color: Hand Color
13.3 x 11.5 inches
33.8 x 29.2 cm
This is a reduced version of Christopher Saxton's map of Devonshire, which was the first map of the county. It is lavishly decorated with a strapwork title cartouche, the Royal Arms, a fine compass rose and a sea monster. Blank verso.
A nice impression with attractive color. A tiny repair to the left of Ashburton with a couple lines of facsimile on the road. The blank margins have some faint discoloration, not affecting the map.
