These two maps show Colorado during the second part of the 19th century. The first map is Samuel Augustus Mitchell's Map of Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado… It illustrates the rapid development of these areas during this period. The map is dated 1861, the year Colorado became a territory. There are approximately 17 sparse counties and the Reservation of the Cheyennes and Arapaches takes up a large region in the east. Many forts, trails and Native American tribes are shown. (14 x 11.5") The second is a double-page map of Colorado by George Cram, circa 1898. This attractive map depict the 38th state with about 55 or more counties, as compared to today's 64. Numerous political and physical features are illustrated. There is a partial map of Texas and a map on Arkansas on the verso. (20 x 13.5").


Condition: A

There is some discoloration in the right margin and minor oxidation of the first map.
