This first edition House volume is a general report on the zoology along the several exploration routes, including those of Beckwith, Whipple, Parka, Williamson and Abbot. In addition to numerous black and white engravings of snakes, fish and mammals, there are 17 full color litho plates of birds. The beautiful bird plates largely feature birds of prey; each a single large image per page. 368 total pages, 83 total lithographed plates. Large 4to in original quarter leather and marbled paper binding with raised spine.

Contents generally very good. Spine and front cover with a little separation at front. Binding a little worn and bumped. Leather title label is sunned and cracked. Blank book plate on inside paste down.
