This is volume six from Van der Aa's extensive series of travel and exploration books, containing a history of voyages to the West Indies in the years 1508 to 1513. The sections in the book include visits to Cuba and Florida with passages regarding the travels of Ponce de Leon, Sebastian de Ocampo and others. Included is a foldout map of the area titled Terra Firma oft Vaste Land van Darien, Veragua, Cartagena, en Nieuw Andalusie, etc. (8.5 x 6"). The map covers the West Indies with portions of Central and South America. A simple compass rose and a decorative title vignette of an interaction between explorers and natives is at upper right. The book is further illustrated with 15 beautifully engraved views depicting scenes of battles, ceremonies and everyday life. 374 pages with Dutch text. Complete, 16mo. Hardbound in original vellum with titlein manuscript brown ink on spine.
Map, text and plates are toned and a bit foxed. Covers have minor soiling and a couple small abrasions. Spine and binding are sound. A very nice example.
