A handsome map of the Mediterranean islands, the larger map depicting Crete and three smaller maps of Corsica, the Ionian Islands, and Sardinia. Ortelius compiled the map from both classical and contemporary sources, including Strabo and Plinius. Strapwork cartouches, a ship and sea monsters ornament the map. Blank verso, indicating it as from either a Greek or Latin edition of 1584.
References: Van den Broecke #217.
A dark impression on a sheet with wide original margins. The map has some minor creases and a small bit of abrasion on the small island above Crete.
