This very early, rather imaginative map of the West Indies refers to Christopher Columbus' exploration of the islands and subsequent discovery of America in 1492. It is one of the earliest maps of the region available to collectors and a foundation map for a collection focused on the Caribbean. Sea monsters plague the ocean, various types of ships sail the seas, and on the verso a pair of gleeful cannibals prepare their gruesome meal. On a sheet of related French text, 8 x 12".
