A rarely offered map that shows the position of the Kearsage when she received the first broadside of the enemy, the general direction of the ships during the battle, and the position of the Alabama when it sank in 45 fathoms of water. With numerous notations on the battle as it progressed. Also notes the track of the British yacht Deerhound. Six miles south of the sea battle is the town of Cherbourg from where the Alabama set sail to engage the Kearsage.

The CSS Alabama, commanded by Captain Semmes, had enjoyed nearly two years of successful ocean raiding at the expense of U.S. commercial shipping. This sea battle resulted in the sinking of the Alabama. Most of her crew were rescued by the Kearsage and the Deerhound. Those saved by the British ship, including Semmes and most of his officers, were taken to England and thus escaped capture by the Union. An uncommon issue.
