This fascinating map shows several hundred claims and presents the mining activity in Butte in an almost dizzying fashion. It also shows numerous other features of the area including topography, railroads, a racetrack, several cemeteries, a hospital, smelters, the Butte Reduction Works, and the Electrical Light Company. A color key at the lower left of the map shows the holdings of the larger companies like Rainbow Lode and Anaconda, while a list of claims "Too Small To Name" is located in the lower right corner. The map is backed with linen, and was compiled and published by Harper, MacDonald & Co.

There is a damp stain in the upper left corner, and some soiling in several areas within the image. There are four small holes in the margins, one at each corner and several small fold separations. Otherwise, this is a very bright example with a crisp impression.
