Subject: Northern Africa
Period: 1775 (dated)
Color: Hand Color
21.5 x 18 inches
54.6 x 45.7 cm
A classically detailed and hard to find Italian edition of de Vaugondy's map of North Africa. The map covers the region from the Sahara to the southern reaches of Portugal, Spain and Italy. Done in original outline color, this example features a beautiful, uncolored decorative cartouche, three distance scales and numerous place names. Excellent detail of coastal features, interior left mostly blank but with several comments in French.
Nice impression on very heavy paper with full margins. A hint of toning along centerfold, and some damp staining in upper margin just reaching into image along centerfold, else very good.
