"[Lot of 2] Nouveau plan de Paris [and] Plan de Paris", Hachette, Louis Christophe Francois
Subject: France, Paris
Period: 1870-1903 (dated)
A fine pair of linen backed Paris street plans that are similarly bound in dark blue cloth. They provide a very interesting comparison of the city between c.1870-1903.
The Nouveau Plan de Paris, circa 1870, hand colored (29.5" x 24"). Includes a 47-page street index. Original hardbound embossed cover with gilt title.
The Plan de Paris, dated 1903, (31.5 x 25") is dissected and in full printed color. This example shows some modern improvements such as the original routes of the Paris Metro, one of the oldest subways in the world. This book includes a 62-page street index. Original hardbound embossed cover with gilt title.
Text of Nouveau Plan de Paris generally good; map with some toning, foxing and several small intersection fold separations. Plan de Paris text shows significant darkening and some loss at the edges of several pages; linen backing of map is foxed, and has several short fold separations. Bindings with some minor shelf wear; 1903 with some tears on spine.
