This uncommon map is from a history and geography book for Catholic students. The huge northwest coast of North America is marked Terra Incognitae. There is a pictorial title cartouche depicting Benedictine monks bringing Christianity to the New World.
Desing was an eighteenth century Benedictine monk of Ensdorf who devoted his life to scientific studies and was a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. He also produced "Katholic Kinder Atlas" and "Historica Auxilia."
Slight toning along fold.
