"[Lot of 2] NI 52 Nagasaki / NH 52 Kagoshima [and] NJ 54 Sendai / NJ 53 Kanazawa", Army Air Force (AAF)

Pair of handsome AAF escape charts, printed on synthetic silk cloth. These extremely detailed aeronautical charts were issued to pilots during WWII to be worn as neck kerchiefs under their flight suits as part of their survival gear in the event they were shot down. They are filled with information and keyed to the legend which shows various roads, railroads, cities, towns and villages, lighthouses, radio stations, plus topographical and watershed detail. This lot includes the important map of the region around Nagasaki. There are two maps on each sheet; as these were always issued with maps printed on both sides. These maps have been in the possession of the pilot's family since WWII.
