This is the miniature version of Ortelius' important map focusing on China. The map is oriented with north to the right and extends to include parts of Indo-China. The Great Wall is prominently delineated and several huge lakes and rivers dominate the interior. A strapwork title cartouche appears at the bottom next to Japan. This map is from the third epitome of Abraham Ortelius' Theatrum. The maps in this edition were copied from Phillip Galle's final edition of 1598 but were drawn and engraved by Ambrose and Ferdinand Arsenius with wide borders with latitude and longitude shown. Italian text on verso.
