Beautiful AAF escape chart, printed on synthetic silk cloth. These extremely detailed aeronautical charts were issued to pilots during WWII to be worn as neck kerchiefs under their flight suits as part of their survival gear in the event they were shot down. This is one of the most desirable of the series as it shows all of Luzon Island with good detail around Manila and Manila Bay. Drawn on a scale of 1:1,100,00. It is dated April 1944, but has updates to October 1944 so this map was issued to support General MacArthur's massive campaign to capture the Philippines. On the verso is No. 34 Southeast China, which details the region from Hong Kong north to Shanghai and well into the interior. Includes an inset that details the island of Taiwan (Formosa). A very desirable WWII artifact that has been in the possession of the pilot's family since WWII.
