This small celestial chart shows the northern sky with the faint northern stars recently charted by Lalande and others and the new constellations used in Bode's Uranometria. The chart shows the Milky Way, Orion, Big and Little Bear, Cassiopeia and many others. Johann Elert Bode, a self-taught astronomer, served as director of the astronomical observatory of the Berlin Academy of Science for nearly 40 years. He edited the Astonomisches Jahrbuch every year from 1774 to 1826, and published several popular astronomy texts and atlases. This chart is from his revised atlas based on Fortin, in which he included a great many newly discovered stars.
