Engraved by Jodocus Hondius, this is one of the most decorative maps of Lincolnshire. The map is finely detailed and incorporates a town plan of Lincoln, a strapwork title cartouche with a royal crest and a compass rose, a scale cartouche with compass and putti, a sea monster and sailing ship, and ten armorials of the Earls of Lincoln. Battle scenes are depicted above a block of text describing the two major conflicts that were fought in the region. Latin text on verso, from the John Sudbury & George Humble, 1616, Latin text edition, which is extremely rare.
