"Nova Aegypti Tabula", Wit, Frederick de
Period: 1730 (circa)
Color: Hand Color
20.5 x 17.3 inches
52.1 x 43.9 cm
Very uncommon and beautiful chart of northern Egypt and the Red Sea. It is based on Blaeu's chart of the same title and has nearly identical embellishments that include figures flanking both the title and distance scale cartouches, and the addition of a coat of arms emblazoned with three vipers. The map is oriented with north to the left. Two groups of pyramids are shown. Published by Covens and Mortier.
Fine impression and original color. Some very minor toning and offsetting, else very good.
