This is a very rare copper engraved map from one of the leading cartographers of the Lafreri-School. The map is filled with detail of the mountains, cities and plantations and embellished with a handsome compass rose and title cartouche. Second state with the addition of the imprint of Petrus de Nobilibus, who issued the map in a separate publication from Rome. The Lafreri-School was not actually a school, but a group of cartographers, mapmakers, engravers and publishers who worked in the major Italian publishing centers of Rome and Venice, from about 1544 to 1585.
