Pair of attractive mid-nineteenth century plans of the nation's capital. First (13.5 x 11") was published by S.A. Mitchell in Philadelphia with a copyright date of 1867. Sections of the city are distinguished by color. Other details include the names of streets, monuments, important buildings, railroads, major roads, rivers and Mitchell's distinctive grapevine border. Second (16.5 x 12.8") was published by A.J. Johnson in New York with a copyright date of 1868. This lovely map is colored by ward with the street plan and important buildings including the Washington Monument, the Capitol building, city hall, the Presidents House and several reservations identified.
