35.1 x 43.2 cm
A seldom seen folio atlas that was published by C.D. Strong. Complete with all 51 engraved and hand colored maps, plans and pictorial title page with cherubs in rococo-style surround. Includes a fine Independent Republic of Texas map. Hardbound in cloth with quarter leather spine and corners, frontispiece (Boston), title page, List of Maps, maps. Small puncture to blank page between the "Iowa and Wisconsin" and "Texas" maps. Most maps are copyrighted late 1830's by either Bradford or Thomas Gordan and engraved by G.W. Boynton. A lovely and increasingly difficult to obtain atlas.
Maps have slightly oxidized color with very occasional light foxing, still generally very good. Map of US with offsetting in west and full split, only good. Contents and signatures tight. Covers rubbed and worn with some staining to cloth.
