Very nice and complete example of this first edition small folio atlas published by William D. Ticktor. This edition precedes the publication containing the map of Texas. Black cloth with red leather spine and corners, gilt titled spine. Frontis, title page, advertisement, contents, 178 pp., approximately 66 maps and plans, 7 views and diagrams, and numerous tables. This atlas, unlike many of the period includes extensive text on the history, economics and geography covered by each map. A great example of this increasingly scarce atlas.

References: Phillips (A) #770; Phillips (M) p.841; Rumsey #2643.

Condition: A

Maps are clean with good color, generally very good to fine. Title page and frontis with light scattered foxing. Manuscript name and date (1840) on title page. Contents and signatures tight. Covers rubbed with spine replaced.
