This is a very fine map of Sri Lanka with north oriented to the left by an elaborate compass rose. The map is beautifully engraved with great detail of mountains, forests, villages, kingdoms, mines, stupas and spice plantations. It is embellished with three strapwork title cartouches, a sailing ship, and animals in the interior (including a large elephant). French text on verso.

Fine impression and superb original color highlighted in gold leaf. Couple of marginal spots and tiny edge tears, else fine.
