Subject: Ancient World
Period: 1788 (dated)
Color: Hand Color
19.7 x 14.7 inches
50 x 37.3 cm
Very finely engraved large map of the region of the world that was known in classical times, with up-to-date detail of topography and place names. The Nile River is still shown with its twin lakes source in the Lunae Montes located above the Equator. Eight distance scales and extensive notes complete the map. Drawn by Haywood and engraved by George S. Allen.
Good impression with very nice later coloring. On thin, hand laid paper, folding as issued. A little very light surface soil and a couple spots of red watercolor in notes at lower right, else very good.
