"Mission and Plain of San Fernando", U.S. Railroad Surveys
Subject: United States - California
Period: 1855 (published)
Color: Black & White
8.8 x 6.4 inches
22.4 x 16.3 cm
Very nice tinted lithograph from the Pacific Railroad Survey depicting the San Fernando Valley when it had only a Mission and the occasional ranch house. In the foreground, a Californio harvests a cactus pear. A far cry from today's sprawling suburb near Los Angeles. Plate VI from the geology report. Generally considered the first published view of the valley.
A few very light spots, still very good.
