This is a fine set of wood engravings was published in German by Friedrich von Hellwald. Many are the same engravings seen in the American publication Picturesque America. The set also includes some uncommon views of Milwaukee, St. Paul, St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati and others. All but 2 are full-page engravings with blank versos. Two of the Chicago street scenes are included on text pages. They are not bound, but enclosed in the original paper wrappers that were issued as a serial subscription. Sold as a collection of plates.
