This is the American section of the scarce French edition of Munster's Cosmographia, one of the most influential geographical works of the 16th century. Munster's text was reprinted by other publishers, most notably by Francois de Belleforest, who amended it with new descriptions including one of the earliest accounts of the discoveries of Verrazzano. He also replaced the maps and plans from those of more modern sources. This section contains a double-page view of Cuzco and single-page view of Mexico City (both woodcuts adapted from Braun and Hogenberg). French text with pages 2033 through 2235. Only issued in one edition, thus very scarce. Late nineteenth century binding in marbled-paper and green cloth with leather and gilt spine.
