A fascinating handwritten letter from Tooley to Rosejeanne Slifer, former department head for antiquarian booksellers B. Altman and Co. in New York City. Tooley dedicated his important book "The Mapping of America" to Ms. Slifer. In this very personal and chatty letter Tooley touches on Douglas Adams, thanks Slifer for the tie she sent, traveling to London to visit with Bob (who delivered the tie), mentions that business has been very quiet, and his continuing writing and that he has two books currently at the publisher. Importantly, he discusses Valerie Scott and the fact that the "magazine now belongs fully to her" and that "she is a good woman". He finishes with a remembrance of Leana and signs the letter "Mick". A very important manuscript letter related to one of the most influential figures in the map world. On R.V. Tooley's personal stationary with envelope.
