An elephant folio historical atlas in French; forerunner to the familiar Carey & Lea/ Buchon atlases. Engraved frontispiece of Napoleon's Empire and 32 double-page hand-colored plates, incorporating chronological, historical and genealogical tables and 19 maps, including the world map and continents. Adhered to front endpaper is a letter dated 1912 attributing the provenance to Mr. Daniel Parker, a Bostonian who owned a chateau outside Paris and received many American and French dignitaries at his library in the early nineteenth century. Original full leather covers with gilt embossed shield and title on front, and new leather spine.
